"In preparing for battle, I have always found that plans are useless but planning is indispensable."
I've seen plans that some of our RVing friends have made and they are down to campgrounds for every night for a 3 month trip. Not us. With minor, unavoidable, exceptions, we wing it. If we wake up and decide we like a place, we'll stay a little longer. If we don't like it, we'll move on early. Yes, that is risky given how crowded campgrounds are now but it worked in the past and lots of people still do it. We'll see. We might make some in really popular places. Our plan follows the General's notion that there ought to be a top level thinking of where to go but much beyond that is of little use.
But, it will certainly change. In fact, it already has. We've said for months that we would leave Hickory on Mon 3 June. 2 days ago we decided to leave on Sunday.
In general, here's the big idea:
In general, here's the big idea:
- 3 days at The Ark Encounter in KY (have reservations)
- 9 days at the Bean Blossom Bluegrass Festival in Indiana (have reservations)
- 4 days or so in the birthplace of many RV's, Elkhart, Indiana including a factory tour (have reservations)
- Mosey out to the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO to arrive on 25 June and depart 8 July or so. Main purpose is to see Luke and family and Kathy who is flying in. (have reservations)
- Here it gets fuzzy. Mainly see Wyoming, Montana, the Dakotas and ??? Hmmm, Robin has never seen the Pacific...maybe Oregon and Washington?
- Known is we will be back in Virginia for Claire/DJ wedding on 17 August so July and half of August avail for wandering. Calgary in Canada isn't that far away is it? You never know.
This blog mainly for us so we can look back and recall where we stayed in case we want to to it again or to share with other travelers who might want to go that way too. We're under no illusions that anyone will read this, but if you do, please comment...even one word.
