On to Cheyenne Wyoming

DRAFT...need to add pictures and complete when I get good internet.

Diesel: 56 gallons, $156, $2.78/gal.
Campground $30/night for 3 nights

Relatively short day of 3 hours all on I-25 north through Denver. Lots of construction but no real delays.

We stayed at the FAMCAMP on Warren AFB for $30/night. Nice pull through with full hookups. Lots of room for dry campers...they say they never turn anyone away.

Warren AFB is interesting. It looks Army. The buildings are brick and look like those at Ft Myer and Ft McNair. There's a reason for that. It was a Army Cavalry Post for a long time so it has huge parade fields surrounded by offices and housing. It is now an Air Missile base. I'm told the main function is maintenance on missiles. Several accounts say that it is the only Air Force Base without a runway!

As the song says "...where the deer and antelope roam." They roam on the parade grounds at Warren!

Downtown Cheyenne is minutes from the campground. Again we were surprised that a state capital  was very quiet with very little traffic. We started at the train depot museum LINK /visitors center where we got tickets for a 90 minute trolley tour of the town. We had lunch first in the Albany restaurant LINK that has been around since 1942.

Then we visited The Wrangler a western wear store since 1892!

The tour was quite good and included free admission to several museums including the rail depot.

We did the others on the second day after lunch at the Luxury Diner LINK,  another restaurant that's been around forever. Its quirky but fantastic.

The Cheyenne Frontier Days will be in a couple of weeks and the spin up has already started. We toured the museum at the park LINK.

Cheyenne was fun. Glad we came. Not sure we'd like it in a few months. We're told that week long 60mph freezing winds are common.
